Symptoms:
The symptoms of food allergies are similar to those of most other allergies found in cats. Probably all of the symptoms of food allergy are typically either skin related or digestion related. Skin symptoms contain rashes all over the body, extreme licking, and red, itchy ears. Others, most of the time digestive situation falls in serious bad condition for food allergies. Vomiting and diarrhea are common in food allergies. These are similar to the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease. The diagnosis for food allergies is very simple. But due to the fact that many other problems can cause same symptoms and that many times cats are suffering from more problems than just food allergies, it is very important that all other problems are correctly identified and treated prior to undergoing diagnosis for food allergies. So you must need to make a diagnosis of your cat from an animal medical centre when you find any of above symptoms.
Treatment:
Once you determine a positive diagnosis, then you must need to take proper step for the treatment of your cat as soon as possible. In this situation your first step should to be providing homemade food, if it ate commercial food. When the owner starts to feed the homemade diet, then he/she can periodically make a change in the food with new ingredients and determine which ingredients are causing the food allergy. Then he/she can remove those items from the routine of daily food of the cat. But always try to feed a variety of fresh foods, and avoid the suspected allergens. It is always essential that homemade food should be balanced, with correct amount of ingredients, vitamins, and minerals. Make the recipe simple, using a single source of protein and carbohydrate. For most of the cats a mix of 1/2 protein foods, 1/4 vegetables, and 1/4 complex carbohydrates works well. Most of the time, with the changing of food the food allergies of cat goes away. But, if it is in serious condition then must contact with your pet doctor.
You can make cat food by mixing meat/fat, water and bone meal or eggshell powder. Lamb, chicken, turkey or beef (all raw) can be used as well. But do not use raw fish or pork. Add fat with organ meat as it is lean meat and fat is beneficial. In case it is a vegetable meal, prepare the mix with very finely chopped vegetables excluding potatoes, onions, eggplant, tomatoes and peppers. If you want, you can make mixtures and keep them refrigerated so that they can be used over a long period of time. Make the stew with approx one spoon of vegetables and three spoons of meat, along with dietary supplements and hot water.
