Dubai World Islands In Dubai

The World or World Islands is an artificial archipelago of various small islands constructed in the rough shape of a world map, located 4.0 kilometres (2.5 mi) off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The World islands are composed mainly of sand dredged from Dubai's shallow coastal waters, and are one of several artificial island developments in Dubai. The World's developer is Nakheel Properties, and the project was originally conceived by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

As of 2010, only a single island has any building on it, which is a show home - all the other projects having been cancelled or delayed due to the 2008 financial crisis. While the developer and Dubai government deny it, a participant in a related law suit has alleged that the islands are also sinking back into the sea.

They have the only 7 star hotel in the world, Burj Al Arab. The tallest building in the world is under construction in Dubai, and now they want claims on the biggest friggin bridge in the world. The bridge will be 1.7 km and 205 meters in height. Building will start next month as they plan to construct 12 lanes that will allow 2,000 vehicles traveling back and forth in one hour. All this will cost a measly $817 million but why stop there?? They should include an airplane strip, build a bridge on top of the bridge,…maybe include the biggest launch pad for NASA as well. Ok I’m getting a bit carried away, but you go Dubai! Keep building these monstrous buildings.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (IATA: KUL, ICAO: WMKK), or KLIA, is one of Southeast Asia's largest airports. It is also Malaysia's main international airport. It is situated in the Sepang district, in the south of the state of Selangor, about 50 kilometres (31 mi) from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. KLIA was built at a cost of about RM8.5 billion or US$3.5 billion.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport is capable of handling 35 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo a year in its current phase. As of 2006, it was ranked as the 13th busiest airport in the world by international passenger traffic, and is the 7th busiest international airport in Asia. The complex handled 26,938,970 passengers in 2007, a 13.0% increase over 2005. In 2008, Kuala Lumpur International Airport handled 667,495 metric tonnes of cargo, which is a 2.2% increase compared to 2007. The increase in cargo volume made Kuala Lumpur International Airport the 28th busiest airport by cargo traffic in 2009.

The airport is operated by Malaysia Airports (MAHB) Sepang Sdn Bhd and is the airline hub or home base for Malaysia Airlines, MASkargo, AirAsia, AirAsia X and jet operations of Firefly.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport serves the Klang Valley Metropolitan Region, Greater Klang Valley, Shah Alam, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and South Perak. With the large catchment area, the airport has become one of the key economic strengths for the nation, where it is well connected via expressways to all parts of Peninsular Malaysia, highly industrialized areas like Shah Alam, and the information and communications technology hub, the Multimedia Super Corridor. It is one of the important components in the economy of Malaysia, as the airport is the main import-export center for the country. Kuala Lumpur International Airport is one of the five airports to be ranked as a 4-star airport by the indepedeny research consultancy firm Skytrax.

The IATA airport code, KUL was inherited from the previous international gateway for Malaysia, Subang International Airport, which currently handles only turboprop aircraft, general aviation and houses a military air base.

Hanalei Bay Beach Kauai

At two miles (3.2 km) long, Hanalei Bay is the largest bay on Kauai and considered one of the best beaches in all of Hawaii. Hanalei means “lei-shaped bay” in Hawaiian and nothing fits the bay’s shape more perfectly than this description. It is a long half moon of golden sand.

Hanalei Bay Beach is located at the base of cliffs. These cliffs reflect into the glass-like water of the bay. Surrounding the bay are 1,000- to 4,000-foot-high (305 m to 1,219 m) mountains covered with mist. Behind it, waterfalls provide a breathtaking backdrop. The bay is so beautiful that the enamored Japanese author Haruki Murakami wrote a short story about it called “Hanalei Bay.”

Coral reefs grow at both ends of the bay – Pu‘u Poa Reef at the left end and Waikoko Reef at the right end – while the middle part is scattered with shallow sandbars and tiny patches of coral. In the summer, boats and yachts anchor at Hanalei Landing, a pier located in the middle of the bay.

Though Hanalei Bay is generally good for a wide range of activities, from swimming to kayaking to windsurfing to yachting, it is subject to high surf and strong currents in the winter months. High surf from mid-October through March creates strong rip currents and pounding shorebreaks. Waves of 20 feet (6 m) and more are not uncommon. For surfers, the biggest waves are at a spot called "Pinetrees," which is near the center of the bay.

Swimmers should go to the northernmost part of the bay where the water remains calmer. But during very high surf conditions, the beach is closed to swimming. On the west end of the bay, the Waioli Stream flows into the bay, filled with chilly water that it collected high up in the mountains.

Hanalei Bay Beach is well-known for its beauty, yet it never gets too crowded. At 125 feet (38 m) wide and 2 miles (3.2 km) long, the white-sand beach has enough room for everyone.

Considered by many locals to be the best swimming beach in Hawaii, Lanikai’s clear waters, clean, wide beach, and swaying coconut palms also make it a photographer’s dream. A mile-long stretch of powdered-sugar sand is perfect for sunbathing. Sparkling turquoise waters sheltered by a wide, protective offshore reef provide ideal swimming conditions. Other popular activities on Lanikai include kayaking, outrigger canoeing, sailing, surfing, and windsurfing. With the twin Mokulua Islands in the distance, Lanikai Beach truly lives up to its translated name of "heavenly sea."

Airbus a330 mrtt

Airbus Military has launched an investigation into an in-flight refuelling mishap that damaged one of the Royal Australian Air Force's delayed A330 multi-role tanker transports (MRTT).

The aircraft was being operated by Airbus Military personnel from the company's Getafe site near Madrid, Spain when the incident happened at around 17:00 local time on 19 January. Also involved was a Lockheed Martin F-16 fighter from the Portuguese air force.
The incident resulted in the detachment and partial loss of the refuelling boom from the MRTT," the Australian Department of Defence says. The separated part fell into the sea after causing "some damage to both aircraft", which then "returned safely to their home airfields", it adds.

Airbus Military and the relevant European military airworthiness authorities will have the lead responsibility for investigating the incident," the DoD says. Australian experts will also participate in the process.

Designed by EADS, the MRTT's advanced refuelling boom system uses fly-by-wire controls and has an extended length of 18.2m (60ft). The system is also being installed on A330 tankers on order for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The mishap comes at an embarrassing time for EADS North America, which is offering the A330-based KC-45 against the Boeing 767 NewGen Tanker in the US Air Force's 179-aircraft KC-X contest. Its offer draws heavily on the MRTT configuration developed for Australia.

Airbus chief executive Tom Enders describes KC-X as "a very important business opportunity for EADS and Airbus".

Australia will receive five MRTTs under the nation's Project Air 5402 acquisition. The first two had been due to arrive in December, but Airbus Military and the DoD are still working to complete the necessary paperwork ahead of the transfer. To be designated the KC-30A in RAAF service, the type had originally been due to enter use from mid-2009.
